Short-Term Rehabilitation in Jersey City, NJ

If you or your loved one is seeking rehabilitation following a serious illness, surgery or accident, our team at Optima Care Harborview is here to help. Located in Jersey City, New Jersey within Hudson County, we provide short-term rehabilitation to help our patients achieve independence and an improved quality of life following a major illness or life event that has impacted their daily physical functioning. Examples of conditions that are often seen within our setting include, but are not limited to, joint replacements, cardiac and pulmonary conditions, strokes, physical trauma, and other issues associated with surgeries or ongoing illnesses.

Short-term rehabilitation is typically offered to patients after a hospital stay and involves around-the-clock care and therapeutic services. It can last anywhere from a few weeks to months depending on an individual’s needs and goals. At Optima Care Harborview, we prioritize the comfort of our patients by ensuring that our facility is welcoming and equipped with staff who care about each patient’s well-being. Our services are especially helpful for individuals who may not be able to live independently at home or who require care that may extend beyond what their caregiver is able to provide.

Our rehabilitation department implements a combined model of medical care and therapeutic services. We recognize the importance of providing readily available medical attention and are staffed with compassionate medical personnel. These include physicians and nurses who monitor our patients’ recovery and administer care when needed. Therapeutic services are provided by our interdisciplinary staff of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists. Examples of how each of these skilled team members may work with our patients include the following:

  • Occupational therapists help our patients regain the functional skills necessary to participate in everyday activities that are meaningful to them. They do this through a thorough evaluation process followed by treatment activities such as therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, activities of daily living retraining (dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing), the implementation of adaptive devices, and pain management training. They also help with bed mobility and transfer training.
  • Physical therapists structure sessions to focus on helping our patients regain strength, improve their balance, and develop increased functional mobility. Their services may include stretching, strengthening exercises, balance exercises, gait (walking) training, and range of motion activities. Physical therapists also help with pain management through the use of various modalities. Similar to occupational therapists, they seek to promote our patients’ independence.
  • Speech therapists help assess and treat disorders related to speech, language, and communication. They also address voice and swallowing difficulties that our patients may experience as a result of their conditions. Speech therapists implement exercises to strengthen muscles for speech and swallowing. They also work on language and memory skills to help patients communicate effectively.
